Cut-to-length (CTL) lines are designed to turn large rolls of metal into flat, packaged pieces. These pieces can be used in many industries, with the automotive sector being one of the most important. The main features of the products created for automotive use include:

In the automotive industry, the thickness of the processed materials typically reaches a maximum of 4 mm, and industry-standard mechanical levellers or hydraulic levellers are commonly employed.

These levellers come equipped with additional functionalities to adapt to the automation level and productivity demands of the line. Features may include automatic cassette changes (in under 5 minutes), LSA (Leveller Setting Assistance), a roller cleaning system, along with various levelling roller materials and finishes.

The primary role of the leveller is to remove internal tensions that arise during the coil manufacturing process, as well as to address local defects such as pockets and ripples. Since the coils utilized in CTL for the automotive sector are generally of very high quality, specialized functions for reducing imperfections are usually not necessary.

Depending on the line’s speed, the type of material being processed, and its thickness, SACFORM offers an extensive variety of shears. For lines designed for the automotive industry, we provide the following essential products:

  • Straight-cut shears:

    • Rotary shears: These shears are designed for high-production lines, capable of reaching up to 200 cycles per minute. They utilize the synchronized rotation of both the upper and lower heads to cut the material. These lines operate by pulling the material through a feeding process managed by a pre-feeding roller and measuring wheel. Since these lines function by pulling, they do not require a pit, allowing for straightforward installations. The shears include features for easy blade changes and automatic clearance adjustment.

    • Drum shears: Intended for very high-production lines (up to 200 cycles per minute), these shears also cut using the synchronized rotation of the upper and lower heads. They are lighter than presses, making them suitable for specific applications.

    • Transversal shears: These shears make cuts from top to bottom, delivering the highest precision regarding cutting linearity. Additionally, since the material remains stationary during the cutting process, these shears produce minimal burr formation. However, their productivity is lower compared to presses. These lines operate in a pit, and feeding occurs in a cyclic manner. They are equipped with automatic die change capabilities for making various types of cuts, such as curved or omega cuts, along with automatic clearance adjustment.

  • Trapezoid cutters:

    • Rotating oscillating shears: Designed for high-production lines that can achieve up to 200 cycles per minute, these shears cut through synchronized rotation of the upper and lower heads complemented by an oscillating motion, enabling the cutting of trapezoidal shapes. These lines function in a catenary manner, with feeding regulated by a preceding roller and measuring wheel. As they do not require a pit, they are easy to install. The shears feature mechanisms for quick blade changes and automatic clearance adjustment.

    • Oscillating shears: Similar to transversal shears, these cut in a top-to-bottom motion, ensuring high accuracy in linear cuts. With the material held stationary during cutting, they also result in minimal burr values. They possess an oscillating movement suitable for making trapezoidal cuts. However, their productivity is lower than that of rotary oscillating shears. These lines also operate in a pit and utilize a cyclic feeding method. They come with automatic die change functions for executing various cuts, such as curved shapes, along with automatic clearance adjustment.
